On Mother’s Day I wanted to share a snippet of our family story. As it will not be our only story but a powerful one that will define who we are and what we learn from it. During this period in our home we –my husband—my son and I became Hurricanes. We would walk upstairs, downstairs in and out of rooms bumbing into each other with such velocity. We became Thunder and Lightning. At the end of the day we fell into bed as puddles of ourselves. That’s what Addiction did to us. Then early in 2013 we got the Call that most parents dread..Your son has been in a terrible car accident—he’s not breathing—get to the Hospital ASAP. We later learned that his transcripts read –John Doe coded DOA ..Dead on Arrival. He was a passenger in a car with another drug addict. Dr. Riley Mayan an experienced Army Urgent Care Doctor was working at the hospital. He performed an Emergency Sternectomy. Which involves a blade to cut his skin open from top to bottom, saws, hammers, & tools to break open his chest bones.. They found a 2 cm hole in his heart, they fixed it --- repaired his kidney and liver while having to just remove his spleen. During his stay many miracles happened. At one point ,the doctor was telling us that your son did survive the surgery but he is brain dead. He said, your son was too long without oxygen. The Urgent Care doctor was pinching him—twisting his skin on his shoulder trying to wake him. He said, when we turn off these meds your son should feel this and respond and he was not. We called a priest to come give him his last rites. During this time his Brother, Sister and Friends were talking to him to coax him back. My son began to move. We ran to the nurse’s station to tell them the good news but they just said.. it was just muscle spasms--- that happens—. But soon after he began to ask for a shower.. My son walked out of the hospital 7 days later at 136 pounds and 6 Ft tall. Of course, a sane folks would believe that an incident like this would sober him up. His psychiatrist set us all straight. He said you could put a million dollars in front of your son but he would only want his drug of choice. Which is exactly what happened. So another arrest and jail time steered him into wanting to get help. His friend John called from California and suggested he come to Tree House Recovery-- because they saved his life. Our son choose to go this time.. and today is 1 year and 4 months sober. His journey had taken him to 9 or 10 rehab centers in Florida, Colorado, Kansas..no he jumped out of the car on the way to that one.. Which we feel was an added feature of their program that we did not get at other rehab places. Just guys who get to work on themselves, They get up together --work out at the beach, they work out all day long, weather it is in meetings, yoga, weight training, or steering a raft on a collision course with the waves. As they build their bodies, & minds back …something takes hold and delivers them from the Black Hole of Addiction. Today I am grateful for George, Justin, Geoffrey and the entire staff at Tree House Recovery. We are also very grateful to my son who did the work. Today his days are filled with counseling other incoming addicts. In the Jewish Religion they believe if you save a person you have saved an army. These guys have saved an armies..As today is Mothers Day I am grateful to my other children who laid witness to this crazy time in our journey. To our family and friends who stood by us and prayed for us. To those who start and keep meeting running like my brother in- law and sister in-law, for all the people who keep the 12 steps alive thru AA, NA, and Al Anon..We thank you and are eternally grateful. In Full Catastrophe Living, Jon Kabat-Zinn writes, “As long as you are breathing, there is more right with you than there is wrong, no matter how ill or how hopeless you may feel.”

This place is a sanctuary. The men that run these homes are truly some of the most amazing people that I have ever known. I am truly blessed to say that I was given the opportunity to be a part of the Tree House family. Thank you guys!

I was a resident here for 6 months and it saved my life. I love the management to the fullest extent, they were there for me and helped me form my life into the person I am today. The support system is the best thing about this house, the structure is what we need to get our lives back into place, and this is the best place to find that structure. People may think that staying with so many people may be a downfall, but that is completely off, staying with more people allows you to create relationships based on support with many people instead of just clicking with one, I didnt believe I would make friends here, but I did, and it was due to the residents coming to me and seeing my pain, and understanding and being supportive. If you are looking for a structured sober living that has no tolerance for crap, has a great support system, and a great network within AA then please look no further.

I was a resident at the tree house for almost 3 years. And while there, the Tree House was a pivotal part of my sobriety, teaching me the basics from day one. I could always look to Mark and the management staff for support in my goal to stay sober, of course the Tree House had rules I had to follow but so does life, what they ask of me was very little compared to what I received in return. My last roommate, the one that gave the bad review was vary inconsiderate to me and the staff. I'm sure that's why he was ask to leave, it's not hard to live there just pay your rent,do your little chore and be accountable, their were times when I needed time to pay my rent and Mark would help me by having me do other things around the house to make my rent, only because I was doing the right thing, and that's all they ask. When I first got there Mark was just the manager, and in that time he has gained my respect and i'm very happy to say he is my friend. So if you are considering the Tree House sober living you could not be making a better chose for getting and staying sober. Like Mark always said do the right things and the right things happen, and i'm living proof.

This place is amazing! It feels like a warm, welcoming home, filled with people who understand what your going through and are there to help. It is affordable, clean and with rules that help adjust returning to normal life. If you are ready to take the next step in moving ahead in your life, this is the place to go. Everyone helps you to achieve every goal you are committed to completing. I have been lucky enough to watch many men turn their lives around for over a year now, and the results are truly amazing. I have never seen such diligent commitment in helping people recover and focus on staying sober. The Tree House helped save my family. God bless everyone there!

This is a great place to get sober. The negative review all in caps is completely unfounded; he was kicked out for all the right reasons, and is simply looking for revenge and thus making excuses up for why this place is bad. I've been to other sober livings and this is the only one that emphasizes a safe environment for getting clean. No rotten apples here will be tolerated, such as user who posted that negative comment, so you won't feel tempted to use. The 12-step program actually works here, as there literally is a sanctioned AA meeting on the premises in the backyard twice a week here around a firepit that really fosters a sober social network to build upon. It's definitely not about money when they kick people out; it's about providing a safe environment to get your life back on track and not be surrounded by people still using, because that's what led to my multiple relapses.
